Devil’s in the details: Gentlemen of the Garden ready for October bash

Here it is not even June and already those Gentlemen of the Garden scamps are thinking about their Halloween costumes. A happy hour gathering of GOGs — although really, from what we’ve seen in 30 years of watching these dudes, pretty much every hour is happy — took place May 19 at the Meat Market and served as a kickoff for the group’s infamous costume bash.

The evening included cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and the announcement that the “Devil’s Night” bash is returning to the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens on Oct. 29.

The appropriately named event, famous for its revelry and over-the-top costumes, is the kickoff to the social season for the young ‘uns, who are carrying on the bawdy traditions started byeminence grise Bob Eigelberger, who remains a stalwart.

“That’s right folks! We’re going back at the Garden!” said Zach McElroy, event chairman. The event will include gourmet food and drink, live music as well as other surprises. More than 75 people attended, including president Eric Lieberman, co-hosts Oliver Cameron-Hayes, McElroy, Charles Bane, Robert Riva and pioneer members such as Eigelberger,Rodman Steele and Jeff Koons.

The Gentlemen of the Garden, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 1991 to support the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, and has since extended its charitable reach to specific landscaping and environmental beautification projects. Recipients have included Mounts Botanical Garden, the Preservation Foundation, the YMCA and the Homeless Coalition.
